    One Billion Buddhas

A Billion Buddhas: The Awakened Cosmos of Himalayan Buddhism
    Himalayan gallery (Gallery 12)
    August 9, 2017 – April 9, 2017

The Himalayan gallery is home to many painted and sculpted Buddha images. Although they may at first seem similar, each one plays a special role in Himalayan religious thought and practice. For Buddhists, each can be understood as revealing some particular aspect of enlightened awareness. This exhibition will introduce you to some images of the Buddha, whose name means, literally, the “Awakened One".
