Text Entries“A good looking and pleasing boy,” (in Emily Eden’s words) the “ruler of one of the Petty States into which the Mountainous Provinces . . . are divided” wears an ornate tunic with matching vest not very different in cut from the set displayed nearby. He sports earrings and necklaces and carries not just a pistol stuck into his cummerbund (a word that entered English from Hindi and Urdu) but both a sword and an arrow.
