An ever-changing innovator, C.C. Wang (also known as Wang Jiqian) continued to experiment with a new mix of traditional Chinese materials and Western techniques until his death. Born in Suzhou to a prominent intellectual family, Wang was educated in traditional Chinese painting styles by a private tutor. While studying law in Shanghai, he was able to study many masterpieces in the collection of his teacher Wu Hufan (1894–1968), and he developed his connoisseurship. Wang left China in 1949 and eventually settled in New York, where his personal style transformed by exposure to Western art movements, especially Abstract Expressionism, and he developed what he called his "Landscapes of the Mind."
In 1999, joined by Wucius Wong, C.C. Wang co-held an exhibition Calligraphy and Beyond at Plum Blossoms (International) Ltd., HongKong.
An inscription in the lower left corner of this painting reads "Fifth month, 18th day,Renshen year (1992). Wang Jiqian"
