Tsujimura Shiro, a ceramic artist from the Nara area of Japan, created this faceted flower vase by slicing the sides of a clay block, making a rough, earthy surface. It has only a small opening, as this type of vase would hold a single branch of a flowering tree (unseen here). Tsujimura is a well- known producer of tea wares who specializes in rustic style utensils such as the tea bowl, freshwater container, and flower vase.
