Higashi Takesonosai, one of Lloyd Cotsen's favorite artists, maintained a friendship with the collector for more than twenty-five years. (The Cotsen Collection at the Asian Art Museum contains thirty of Takesonosai's works.) In this example the artist used concentric shapes to create a sculptural work that is nonetheless functional as a flower basket.
