In the hot summer season, tea practitioners often display flowers in rustic bamboo baskets instead of in ceramic vases. Baskets are used to suggest coolness and to create an informal atmosphere. This rustic unsigned basket is formed in a style especially favored by tea practitioners because it is associated with an early tea master, Hisada Sozen (1647–1707), known for his skill at making tea utensils.
