Freshwater jar (mizusashi)

The freshwater container, known in Japanese as mizusashi, holds cold water used to replenish the kettle during a gathering and to clean tea bowls at the end.

Kato Yasukage XIV studied traditional Oribe and Shino wares in Bizen. He also earned a degree in sculpture from Nagoya University of the Arts. This freshwater jar is characteristic of his energetic, sculptural forms with traditional Oribe green copper glaze.
