Continuing to be produced at the imperial kiln since the Ming, low-fired overglaze enamel wares remained one of the most common productions during the Qing dynasty. The details of the dragons and lotus panels on this piece were drawn in black pigment first, then filled in with green before firing. Eight dragons are here arranged in groups of four on the upper and lower portions, supported by a band of lotus panels below. Each in a different pose, these dragons are well portrayed.
