Chitarman was a celebrated artist and court painter to Muhammad Shah. The fact that the painting is signed indicates the artist's status and the importance of the commission. Details of jewelry and costume have been exquisitely rendered, and masterful attention has been given to individualization of the figures, and the sense of interaction among them.
